Your graduation ceremony is a day to remember for years to come and will be commemorated in photographs that you’ll share throughout your life.
It is important to think a lot about the type of dress you choose to wear on this all-important day, even if you think the event is something casual… If you look around, know what you want, consider the time of year in which the ceremony will be held, and know what you want to hide and accentuate, you can find a dress that makes you feel and look beautiful.
Choose a dress that flatters your figure… You can choose a fitted dress if you want to maximize either your top or bottom half, or you can go with a more flowy dress if you want a dress that is comfortable and one that will hide certain areas of your body.
Dresses come with an A-line skirt or can be straight. Try on different dresses to see which accentuates your favorite features and which can hide the areas that you might be a bit self-conscious about.
If you plan on wearing a strand of pearls that have been passed down from generation to generation, you may want to go with a neckline that shows this off. If you are worried about being cold or want the focus to be on your legs and not your neckline or chest, then you may want to go with a higher neckline.
Think as much about the weather as the dress itself… If your graduation will be held in the summertime, select a different dress than if you are walking in a wintertime graduation ceremony.
A fun, light, and flirty dress with thin straps might be best for the summer months. Cotton, linen, and silk are great fabrics to use for a dress if your graduation is to be held during the hotter months. If you’re graduating on a particularly cold day, then you should look for graduation dresses that are made out of thicker or heavier fabrics like wool, thick cotton, or even mohair.
you should also consider whether or not you want to go with a long-sleeved or short-sleeved dress or one that comes with straps. If you decide straps is more your style, you can look into everything from a halter top kind of dress to one that has thick or even criss-crossed straps.
Think about which dress lengths look best on you and which will be most comfortable and appropriate for the event. A dress that is too short because could be perceived as inappropriate for the event. However, a dress that is too long can cause you to trip on your way up to collect your degree.
The color of your graduation dress should not only complement your skin tone and coloring, but it should also be something that does not clash with the color and look of your graduation robes. If the robes are bright orange, stay away from dresses that are hot pink or different shades of orange.
